About 800 students – dressed to impress, with pitches prepared – met with 64 companies at the Eller Expo September 19. The event, coordinated by Delta Sigma Pi and the Eller College Student Council, gave Eller and pre-business students an opportunity to meet and network with recruiters looking to hire interns and full-time employees.
Amazon, Cisco, Ernst & Young, Target, and Yelp were among the companies that were in attendance. Most companies recruited for a variety of departments and skill sets, giving students a good mix of companies to approach.
“The inaugural Eller Expo is a unique event that provides corporations, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations with the opportunity to connect and engage with the talented students of the Eller College of Management,” said Rachael Ruberg, Delta Sigma Pi’s VP of career showcase. “With over 5,500 undergraduate students enrolled in six academic programs, the Eller College continues to prepare students to excel as they transition to the professional arena.”
This is the first year that Eller has held a fall career fair to complement the spring career showcase. The idea is to complement career activities on main campus and give Eller students a jump-start to launch their careers and start thinking ahead – especially juniors and seniors who want to work in competitive industries where multiple internships are a must.
The event also had a signature app, which allowed students to preview the participating companies, a map of the floor plan, and more.
“The planning of the event started last spring semester and required coordination of finances, company communication, day of operations, gathering volunteers and creating a strong marketing campaign,” Ruberg said.
